In November, the American Heart Association announced changes to the recommended blood pressure guidelines. That included a change in the range for the high blood pressure category.

Why the new guidelines, you may ask? The changes were made to help people take steps to control their blood pressure earlier. Hypertension (otherwise known as high blood pressure) is one of the major risk factors which cause both stroke and heart disease. Stroke and heart disease are the top two causes of death in the world. Some ways to decrease blood pressure include:
- Eating a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables
- Exercising 30 minutes per day
- Quitting tobacco
- Decreasing stress
